FN102 – Interior First Nations Culture and History
This course focuses on and tells the story of the Secwepemc people as they are one of the primary First Nations located in the interior of British Columbia. Valemount College is situated within the traditional territory of the Secwepemc people, specifically the Simpcw First Nation. Therefore, it is an important part of this region’s history and future. Presented in a style that is consistent with the First Peoples Principles of Learning, this course honours the strong role of story, memory and indigenous knowledge in passing knowledge forward. It also shows the deep connection to the land and the relational connection to nature, family, spirituality and community practiced by the Secwepemc people.
